What Exactly Is The Real Food Movement?
The Real Food Movement is more than eating healthy. At Modern Market we have a holistic view on health. Diet, physical fitness and happiness are all intimately interconnected.
We’re believers in healthy fats, and we try to keep added sugar out of the picture. We are guided by the quote from Michael Pollan, “Eat food. Not too much. Mostly plants,” which you’ll find decorating the walls in some of our restaurants.
When you think about a trip to your local grocery store, imagine shopping the perimeter of the store and skipping over all of the boxed, processed foods in the middle. Our scratch-made dishes are created with fresh fruits, vegetables, meats and breads from sources we know and trust. We’re proud to be part of a movement toward whole foods.
We also like to tie in seasonal and local ingredients. In each of our markets, from Denver to D.C., we partner with local companies, farms and ranchers to get the best the region has to offer. Each season we roll out a new menu with an assortment of plates that bring out fruits and vegetables at their peak. The result is colorful and creative dishes with incredible flavor.
Being healthy is not just about the food we eat. It’s how we treat others, how we treat the planet, and how we conduct business. Healthy is the lens that we view the world through. We want our company to be a sustainable pillar in every community we serve. Every practice of a Modern Market can be evaluated through the lens of how well it promotes the health of our teams, our guests and our neighborhoods. Each individual can be a part of this growing movement.
From our bike racing team and our community hikes to local 5K races and yoga on our patios, we support a healthy lifestyle inside and out. We pride ourselves on being a place where vegan, vegetarian, gluten-free and "non dieting" friends can all enjoy a great meal, together. We display the calories on our menu boards, print the macronutrients on our receipts, and are honest about the ingredients we use in each dish, all in the name of transparency.
We want our kids to grow up in a world where clean food is as ubiquitous as clean water. As we open more locations, we enrich communities by bringing them high quality food, supporting localized, sustainable, diverse supplier networks and creating good paying jobs that teach people solid life skills such as leadership and how to cook from scratch. We believe the bigger our company gets, the more good we can do and the more lives we can positively impact.
