Now Serving Colorado Romaine from Petrocco Farms
Supporting local businesses is important to us, especially as Modern Market expands across the country. We love partnering with businesses in each of our markets, like Cuvée Coffee in Texas and Lyon Bakery in Washington, D.C., that share similar values. For the first time, we’re proud to announce that we’re now serving romaine lettuce from Petrocco Farms in all of our Colorado restaurants.
Petrocco Farms is a family owned and operated produce farm in Brighton, Colorado covering 3,000 acres of land. They’ve been growing fresh vegetables since 1916, and today you can find third, fourth and fifth generation family members working in the business. Produce from Petrocco Farms is shipped throughout not only Colorado but Texas, Oklahoma, Nebraska, Arkansas, Missouri, Louisiana, Georgia, Ohio and more.
They grow spinach, green beans, cabbage, onions and beets to name a few. To get a head start on the growing season, the family begins to grow some items in a greenhouse and then takes them to the field to be transplanted (all by hand!) once the snow clears in spring. Though leafy greens are tough to grow in Colorado’s volatile weather, Petrocco Farms makes it happen by spreading their crops across 70 square miles to protect delicate veggies.
What’s next for the growing family business? The Petrocco family recently started an organic line of onions, cabbage, herbs and more. They’re also in the process of converting as many fields as possible to drip irrigation to deliver water more efficiently to their crops.
